Facelift and Achieving Stunning Results

Facelift in Nashville, TN

Do you look in the mirror these days and think who is this person?  If the signs of aging are taking a toll on your confidence, then a facelift may be right for you.  Those with unwanted wrinkles, jowling to lower face, and sagging skin often opt for a facelift to achieve a more youthful and refreshed look.  Deciding to have a facelift is not one to be taken lightly.   After reading this blog you should feel better and more informed about the realities of a facelift.

Facelift in Nashville, TNA facelift does not mean that you are going to look “windblown” or overdone.  Many struggle with self-esteem with aging especially when the signs of aging become more noticeable.  Scars are placed behind the ear as well as in front of the ears.  These scars are hidden and concealed so that it is not obvious that you have had a facelift.  By having a facelift, it will remove and tighten sagging skin, enhance and define facial features as well as minimize fine lines and wrinkles.  In addition to a facelift many people need fat grafting to cheeks, lips and nasolabial folds.  As these areas age we lose volume and in order to plump these areas fat is injected to improve volume loss.  Fat grafting is needed it is recommended at the time of a facelift in order to maximize your results.

A facelift is an outpatient surgery meaning you go home the same day as your surgery.  You return the following day to have a compression wrap removed.  Following that for the first week you will wear a compression neck garment to aid with swelling while you are at home.  At your one week visit you will have sutures removed in front of the ears and will return at 2 weeks to have the remaining sutures removed behind the ears.  You may resume physical activity at 3 weeks and return to social events at 3 weeks.  However, you will be out and about prior to the 3 weeks’ time.  You will be up walking after surgery, just no heavy lifting or strenuous activity.

Many people have additional procedures performed like an upper and/or lower blepharoplasty, brow lift or fat grafting at the same time as a facelift.  Check out our other blogs on these surgeries to learn more.  Dr. Chad Robbins is a board-certified plastic surgeon in Nashville, TN.  Dr. Chad Robbins trained at the world-renowned Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN.  Call us today at (615) 401-9454 for a consultation to see if a facelift is right for you!

How Do I Know If I Need a Lift?

Breast Lift in Nashville TN

That’s a question many of us ask when we start our breast enhancement journey.  How do I know if I need a lift? At Robbins Plastic Surgery we want to educate you on a breast lift and answer your most commonly asked questions.  So, let’s start with what a breast lift means and what it entails.

Breast Lift in Nashville TNA breast lift or mastopexy refers to lifting the breast tissue and nipples and areolas back to the right position.  A breast lift or mastopexy can be performed with or without a breast implant.  (Check out our other blogs on the different breast implants available on the market.)  Weight fluctuations, pregnancy, and aging can all play a part in the position of our breasts.

Here are some most commonly asked questions about a breast lift or mastopexy:

What do the scars look like for a lift?

The scars for a breast lift or mastopexy can vary depending on the individual and how droopy the breasts are prior to surgery. The scars may be around just the areola which is called a periareolar lift.  This is needed in someone who is just a little droopy and needs the nipples and areola brought back to the right position. If someone is truly droopy and a periareolar lift is not enough to get the nipples and areolas in the right position again then an anchor scar may be required.  This is where an incision is made underneath the breast in the crease, a vertical incision and around the areola. This technique allows for a full lift of the breast.

How long will the scars be present?

Scars start off pinkish/red in color initially.  These will fade as time goes if they are not exposed to the sun. This process of fading takes several months.  Using a silicone-based scar cream, Biocorneum will help speed up and improve this process of fading.

Can I get an implant placed at the same time as a breast lift?

Yes, you can absolutely have an implant placed at the same time as a breast lift.

How long does a breast lift take?

The surgery takes approximately 2-2 ½ hours.

Do I go home the same day as my surgery or do I have to stay the night in the hospital?

After having a breast lift, you will go home the same day.

What is recovery like after a breast lift?

You may shower after 3 days following a breast lift.  Then you will wear a sports/compression bra for 6 weeks following your surgery.  You will be up walking after your surgery.

When can I go back to working out at the gym after a lift?

You may return to the gym after 3 weeks and will have no restrictions following your breast lift.

When can I return to work?

If you work a desk job, you may return after 10-14 days.  However, if you have a physically demanding job you may want to wait until 3 weeks following your surgery.

At Robbins Plastic Surgery we provide quality care with a warm, inviting environment.  At your consultation with Dr. Chad Robbins, he will spend time discussing surgery, recovery and educating you on recommendations to help you achieve your aesthetic goals.  You will then be able to make a decision that is best for you. Breast Augmentation in Nashville, TN

Breast Augmentation in Nashville, TN

Breast Augmentation in Nashville, TNBreast augmentation or a “boob job” is the most popular plastic surgery performed according to the American Society of Plastic Surgery or ASPS.  A breast augmentation restores volume to your breast with typically an implant.  Breast implants are approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and have been since 1976 and were introduced to the US in 1962.  There are few different types of breast implants on the market today.  There are saline breast implants, silicone breast implants as well as ‘gummy bear’ or shaped silicone implants available today.

Saline breast implants are filled with salt water.  If a saline implant is to leak, then it would deflate, and the body would absorb the saline.  The shape of saline implants is only round.

Silicone breast implants are made of silicone gel.  These implants feel more like natural breast tissue versus saline breast implants.   If silicone implant is to leak the gel remains within its shell.  Silicone implants come in either round or shaped or gummy bear silicone implants.  The gummy bear breast implants are made of silicone gel but are a little thicker feeling than the round silicone implants.  The gummy bear implants are tapered at the top and a little fuller at the bottom more similar to a natural breast or tear drop.

All implants come in different widths, heights and projections.  At your consultation with Dr. Chad Robbins he will measure to make sure the implant chosen for you fits your chest wall nicely to achieve your aesthetic goals.

Following your breast augmentation surgery, you will be wrapped in a bandage that will stay in place for 3 days.  After removing the bandage, you may shower and then will wear a sports bra for 6 weeks following your surgery.  You may resume normal physical activities after 3 weeks.   Pain following surgery is worse the first 3 days, but then tends to subside as time goes on.

At Robbins Plastic Surgery we strive to provide the best quality care for our patients.  Dr. Chad Robbins is a board-certified plastic surgeon and was voted Nashville’s Best Nip and Tuck Doctor by the Nashville Scene.  Call today for a consultation to see if a breast augmentation is right for you.  Our consultations are informative, and we take the time to answer your questions and listen to your concerns. Is a Tummy Tuck Weight Loss Surgery?

Tummy Tuck in Nashvilee, TN

Many people confuse a tummy tuck or abdominoplasty with weight loss surgery like gastric bypass, lap band or gastric sleeve surgery.  Weight loss surgeries like these listed above are to help you lose weight.  A tummy tuck or abdominoplasty is surgery to remove the excess skin after you’ve lost the weight.  So, with that being said, these surgeries do very different things in the end.  Dr. Chad Robbins recommends reaching your goal weight prior to surgery so that you can achieve the best aesthetic outcome.

Is the goal of a tummy tuck to lose weight?

Tummy Tuck in Nashvilee, TN

No, tummy tuck or an abdominoplasty is not a weight loss surgery and the goal is not to help or kick start your weight loss journey.  Living a healthier lifestyle prior to your abdominoplasty or tummy tuck can help you achieve your best results after surgery as well as aid in a good and speedy recovery.  Being at your healthiest weight does lower your risk for complications following any surgery.

A tummy tuck or an abdominoplasty removes excess skin and abdominal fat during the surgery.  Liposuction is performed to the love handle areas to give your nice shape and contouring.

Overall, you cannot rely on an abdominoplasty to help with any weight loss issues.  Always see a board-certified plastic surgeon when choosing to have plastic surgery.  Review before and after pictures of tummy tucks as well before choosing a plastic surgeon.

Check out more blogs and before & after pictures at www.robbinsplasticsurgery.com of abdominoplasty and the 5 truths you need to know before having your abdominoplasty or tummy tuck.  Dr. Chad Robbins was voted the best Nip and Tuck surgeon in Nashville.  Call today to schedule a consultation with Dr. Chad Robbins!  It’s never too late to find out if a tummy tuck is right for you!

The Truth About a Tummy Tuck

Tummy tuck, abdominoplasty in Nashville TN

The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) reports an abdominoplasty or tummy tuck as 5 of the most popular cosmetic surgeries performed each year. An abdominoplasty is also known as a tummy tuck reshapes and flattens the abdominal area. A tummy tuck also removes excess skin and fat as well as tightening of abdominal muscles. The abdominal muscles can stretch during pregnancies and do not come back together unless they are surgically brought back together. The results will give you a flatter and more contoured shape following an abdominoplasty.

The scar for a tummy tuck is typically low and hidden in bathing suits and underwear. Stitches are dissolvable, so there are no stitches to remove from the incision. With a tummy tuck, the pubic area fullness is reduced as well as lifted. The belly button scar is concealed inside the belly button so there are no visible scars on the outside that would be visible at the beach or pool. Liposuction is included with an abdominoplasty to the love handle or flank areas. This achieves a more defined and better contour to the abdominal and flank area.

You may resume full physical activities following an abdominoplasty or tummy tuck 3 weeks after surgery. Which means you can be back to running, jogging, yoga and taking care of your children after 3 weeks!

It is best to wait until after you are finished having children and/or have achieved your goal weight before proceeding with an abdominoplasty or tummy tuck. This will allow you to achieve your optimal results.

Do I Really Need a Lift?

Breast Lift in Nashville, TN

A mastopexy or the more commonly used term is a breast lift, is performed to improve the appearance of breasts. Today there is so much talk of breast augmentation that many think that this is the only way to enhance your breasts. However, you can enhance the volume of your breasts with a breast augmentation, reverse sagging with a breast lift or mastopexy or have an augmentation/implants placed as well as a breast lift at the same time.

Breast Lift in Nashville, TN

A mastopexy or breast lift can sound a little scary at first especially when most are apprehensive about scars.  A breast augmentation or placement of implants does not address sagging breasts that can occur after pregnancy, nursing, weight fluctuations, and gravity can all play a part in sagging of the breasts. A breast lift addresses sagging, droopy and at times can address asymmetries by rearranging natural breast tissue to give a more youthful appearance. A breast lift doesn’t give more fullness to the breasts, however adding a breast implant can help add fullness.

There are a couple of different ways a breast lift can be performed. One technique is by making an incision around the areola, as known as a peri areolar lift and lifting the areola to a more youthful appearance. This is only possible if a women’s breasts are only a little bit droopy. A breast implant can be placed at the same time as a peri areolar lift. Incisions are concealed along the edge of the areola.

Another technique is what’s called a wise pattern mastopexy. This is required when breasts are saggy and droopy. By using this technique of a wise pattern technique breasts are perkier and more youthful in appearance.

Dr. Chad Robbins, a board certified and Mayo trained plastic surgeon can help you determine a breast lift is right for you.
