For individuals in and around Nashville and Franklin with dull facial skin or simply prone to developing acne, dermaplaning may be a simple and quick solution to brighter, healthier skin. Performed by Mayo Clinic-trained, board-certified Nashville plastic surgeon, Chad Robbins, M.D., F.A.C.S., dermaplaning refreshes your look for a more vibrant appearance.
What is Dermaplaning?
A painless, inexpensive alternative to chemical peels, dermaplaning resurfaces the skin using a razor-like blade for a more even tone and a hairless finish. Not only is dermaplaning great for a quick, on the go touch up for dull skin, but dermaplaning can also be used to aid in the prevention of acne breakouts.
How Dermaplaning Treatment Works
This treatment is painless, very safe and is usually performed every four to six weeks. Dermaplaning is inexpensive and does not include a lot of downtime (a little redness 24 to 48 hours afterward), which is always good for women with hectic work schedules. It can be performed on any skin tone.
Preparing for your Dermaplaning Treatment
No preparation is needed prior to your appointment with Dr. Robbins. Immediately prior to your dermaplaning treatment, the skin will be thoroughly cleaned.
The Dermaplaning Treatment Experience
Dermaplaning is performed with a special hand-held instrument called a dermatome. Dr. Robbins uses the dermatome to artfully smooth away the surface layer of the skin. Depending on the size of the target area, the treatment can last between 15 minutes to an hour to complete.
After your Dermaplaning Treatment
After dermaplaning, the skin is left feeling baby smooth, and makeup is much easier to apply. Dermaplaning also helps topical treatments work more effectively since the skin is “fresh”. A lack of skin cell “build up” allows creams/serums to work more effectively as they can penetrate more easily. Dermaplaning is not a new technique and has been used for many years. It is a quick way to immediately revitalize the skin and remove unwanted facial hair.
