The shape and contour of the chin can have a significant effect on the overall appearance of a person’s face. Men and women in Nashville, Franklin and surrounding areas who have a recessed or “weak” chin may wish to consider a chin augmentation with board-certified Nashville plastic surgeon Chad Robbins, M.D., F.A.C.S., to help them achieve an aesthetically pleasing balance to the face.
What Is Chin Augmentation Surgery?
Chin augmentation or implant surgery is an effective way to create a face that appears well-balanced. This procedure improves the shape and appearance of the chin. Inserting a small implant through the mouth or along the jawline provides a more defined chin.
Are you a good candidate for a chin implant?
The following are some common reasons why you may want to consider a chin implant:
- You have a weak, receding chin and wish to improve the appearance of your profile by increasing the projection of your chin
- You have an undefined or weak jaw line that does not help frame your face or distinguish your neck
- You wish to correct facial deformities resulting from injury or congenital conditions
- You are considering Rhinoplasty to create a face that appears well-balanced
There are many alternatives that can alter the structure of your face. Along with facial implants, your aesthetic plastic surgeon might also discuss options such as fat grafting, bone repositioning, bone grafting and dermal grafting.
If you are in good general health, have a positive attitude and realistic expectations, you are most likely a good candidate for this procedure.
Making sure to choose a board certified plastic surgeon, Chad Robbins is skilled in the most advanced cosmetic and reconstructive surgery techniques for men and women in and around Nashville and Franklin. In addition to performing facial plastic surgery, he is a leading provider of breast augmentation, liposuction, and other body contouring procedures. His focus is on helping patients enhance their quality of life as they achieve their aesthetic goals. Please call 615-401-9454 to schedule a personal consultation with Dr. Robbins in Nashville.

Dermal fillers can help replace the volume in your face that is lost with age. These are injected into the lines and wrinkles in your face to plump them up and provide a more youthful look. There are several types of fillers available:
- Hyaluronic acid (Juvederm® Ultra XC/Juvederm® Ultra Plus XC, Voluma® and Restylane/Restylane®-L, Restylane® Silk and our newest and more natural fillers-Restylane® Refyne and Restylane® Defyne). Hyaluronic acid is a sugar found in human skin that forms part of the matrix holding skin cells together. It is also a component in collagen. These products attract water like a sponge, filling and plumping the tissue. Voluma® is made up of thicker molecules therefore perfect for plumping up those cheeks and it’s longer lasting! Voluma is more expensive but can last up to 2 years.
- Calcium hydroxylapatite(Radiesse®). This mineral dissolves after a time and is absorbed by your body. It is injected in the form of a gel to fill in wrinkles between the nose and mouth and to provide more definition to thinning areas of the face.
Are dermal fillers right for you? If you are noticing facial wrinkles, folds and loss of volume in your face, then dermal fillers are just what you need to get that youthful look. Dermal fillers may be used in other places such as hands and lips at a physician’s discretion.
Robbins Plastic Surgery has highly trained nurse injectors. If you would like to set up a personal consultation to discuss which filler is best for you, call our office 615-401-9454 or visit our website www.robbinsplasticsurgery.com

Have you ever thought about why they call it “plastic surgery”? The term plastic means to mold, and is from the Greek word plastikos. It was first used to describe a specialty of surgery in 1837.
Here is a great definition of a plastic surgeon:
We restore, repair, and make whole those parts…which fortune has taken away, not so much that they may delight the eye, but that they may uplift the spirit and help the mind of the afflicted.
Plastic surgery vs. Cosmetic surgery
While both cosmetic surgery and plastic surgery deal with improving a patient’s body, the training, research and goals for patient outcomes are very different.
Cosmetic Surgery: Focused on Enhancing Appearance
The procedures, techniques, and principles of cosmetic surgery are entirely focused on enhancing a patient’s appearance. Improving aesthetic appeal, symmetry, and proportion are the key goals. Cosmetic surgery can be performed on all areas of the head, neck, and body. Because the treated areas function properly, cosmetic surgery is elective. Cosmetic surgery is practiced by doctors from a variety of medical fields, including plastic surgeons. So keep in mind that an EENT (Eyes, Ears, Nose and Throat) doctor may also perform cosmetic surgery.
Plastic Surgery: Focused on Repairing Defects to Reconstruct a Normal Function & Enhancing Appearance
Plastic surgery is defined as a surgical specialty dedicated to reconstruction of facial and body defects due to birth disorders, trauma, burns, and disease. Plastic surgery is intended to correct and reconstruct dysfunctional areas of the body. While many plastic surgeons choose to complete additional training and perform cosmetic surgery as well, the basis of their surgical training remains reconstructive plastic surgery. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons communicates the message that “plastic and reconstructive surgeons are one in the same.
Plastic Surgery Training: The Key Difference
Following completion of medical school, a board-certified plastic surgeon serves first as a surgical resident for at least 3 years where they undergo rigorous training in all aspects of surgery and then 3 years of focused plastic surgery training. The process can take 6 to 8 years or more and many further their training in fellowships including micro vascular, craniofacial, hand, pediatric and aesthetic. This is a key differentiator between a plastic surgeon and a cosmetic surgeon.
Choosing a Plastic Surgeon: Board Certified Plastic Surgeon
Nashville’s Best Nip and Tuck and Top Doctor, Dr. Chad Robbins, is board certified by the ASPS and ASAPS, focuses on breast reconstruction, skin cancer closures, breast enhancements, mommy makeovers, body contouring such as tummy tucks, lower body lifts and buttock enhancements as well as face lifts, nose and eye lifts.
Nashville’s Best Nip and Tuck Dr. Chad Robbins explains why spring is the best time to have Liposuction
Robbins Plastic Surgery offers a variety of body contouring procedures, including liposuction. Our patients typically elect to have liposuction in the late winter / early spring so they have ample time for the entire procedural process and before the summer vacation season begins.
Liposuction is a routine procedure performed to help patients eliminate targeted areas of excess fat. Dr. Robbins says that many patients, no matter how rigorous their diet and exercise routines, simply cannot get rid of certain fat deposits. Liposuction has become one of the most popular surgical cosmetic enhancement procedures in the United States, and is design to remove extra fat in nearly any region of the body, including:
- Abdomen and love handles (flanks)
- Thighs and buttocks
- Upper and lower back
- Face and neck
Liposuction is not meant for patients seeking to lose large amounts of weight. The procedure is intended to remove targeted deposits of fat and effectively improve the patient’s contours in those regions.
For those seeking bathing suit bodies, Dr. Robbins suggests starting the process at least 6-8 weeks prior. Returning to work and normal work-out routines may resume 1-2 weeks after procedure and a compression garment is worn for 4-6 weeks to help with the swelling. Making early spring the perfect time to have liposuction!

An arm lift or brachioplasty reshapes the upper arm to tighten loose skin and remove fat that often creates a “bat wing” appearance under the arm. Removing the excess skin caused by weight loss or natural aging can tighten loose skin that extends from the underarm area to the elbow; liposuction is sometimes used in combination to achieve the best results.
During a brachioplasty, an incision is made that typically runs from the elbow to the armpit. Excess skin, fat, and tissue is then removed. Although some scarring will always be visible, the surgeon will place the scar in the most inconspicuous location, which is on the inner arm toward the back.
Are you a good candidate for arm lift surgery?
After losing a significant amount of weight and adapting to a healthy lifestyle, you may find that you still have loose, hanging underarm skin that resembles bat wings. Although you can improve your upper-arm appearance with exercise, this redundant underarm skin remains a problem that does not improve with exercise. The following are some common reasons why you may want to consider an upper arm lift:
- You have lost the weight you desire, but are left with redundant underarm skin.
- You are an adult with significant upper arm skin laxity due to aging.
- Your weight is relatively stable and you are not significantly overweight.
- You are a healthy individual with no medical conditions that could impair healing or increase

Today’s breast implants are designed to be highly durable and long lasting. In most cases, you should maintain your beautiful results for many years. But like all other medical devices, breast implants will eventually wear out and need to be replaced. For some, this may take decades. For others, it may happen more quickly.
The most common reason for replacing old breast implants is a leak or rupture. They type of breast implant you have will impact the appearance of your breasts after a rupture. When saline breast implants rupture, they will deflate and the sterile saline solution will be safely absorbed by your body. However, this will create an imbalanced breast appearance that clearly signals it is time to replace your implants.
The cohesive silicone gel used in modern silicone breast implants will maintain their shape in the event of a rupture, making it much more difficult to recognize that it is time to have them replaced. We recommend seeing your plastic surgeon for an exam and he may order an MRI depending on the circumstance.
Here are some other reasons why you may choose to replace your breast implants:
- Change the size of your implants to a smaller size, especially after pregnancy or weight gain
- You are not satisfied with the results initially achieved by your breast augmentation.
- To replace old saline breast implants with a more natural look and feel of silicone breast implants
- To correct breast implant complications such as capsular contracture.
Board Certified Plastic Surgeon Dr. Chad Robbins has performed numerous breast implant exchange surgeries for women in the Nashville, TN area who wish to replace their old breast implants. He understands the unique issues associated with these revision procedures, and he has the skills to deliver the beautiful, natural looking results you desire.
